Sam Singleton Atheist Evangelist is Coming to Topeka!

Sam Singleton Atheist Evangelist will be appearing at Frances O'Dooley's, Wednesday, April 15, at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:00. General admission is $20 dollars at the door, $15 for 'Card-Carrying' ACT Members and Students.

Writer-actor Roger Scott Jackson clearly relishes referring to himself as the “creator” of Sam Singleton Atheist Evangelist. “At least he has a creator,” Jackson says, “which is more than you or I can say.” According to Jackson, that’s just the beginning of the parallels between his satiric invention and the God in whom he professes nonbelief.

“Brother Sam (as the character is popularly known) is a product of human imagination, a creation, just like God,” he says. “And like any imaginary creature, he himself does not have the power to create. God and Brother Sam also have in common that people tend to project their own prejudices and preconceptions on both of them. And there are other similarities, too.”

Jackson claims that Brother Sam provides for atheists many of the same benefits that traditional preachers have always offered believers. “Except salvation,” he notes. “Ain’t nobody at any Sam Singleton show interested in the hereafter. But, like a regular revival meeting, most of the people that show up are already convinced. Brother Sam is mainly preaching to the choir, providing an excuse for atheists to get together and hear some encouraging words. I’ll tell you what, if anybody can use some laughs and encouragement, it’s atheists. After all, the believing class has us outnumbered by about a zillion to one.”
