Apparently christians have an exclusivity on making friends
I ran across a christian website that gave me an answer to this question: If I'm naturally introverted and independent, why should I go out of my way to make friends?
Come to find out, the reason is that god commands it. And here I thought there were secular reasons for meeting people and making friends. Why in the world would I want to be in an Atheist Community if the only reason to make friends is because god commands it?
There was a little bit of decent advice:
Friendships take time and effort—even for those gregarious souls to whom it comes naturally. But if you're naturally introverted, friendship presents an even greater challenge. You may wonder if any relationship is worth the risk.
But that was it for good advice.
After that they went on to talk about jesus making friends and loving everyone even though he knew he would be betrayed. Why is it no matter what the outcome is, jesus always did the right thing? I'm generally optimistic and have plenty of friends but if I knew ahead of time one was going to get me killed I might think twice about it. Then again jesus probably wanted to get to heaven as soon as he could. Why wouldn't he? He'd probably even try to speed things up. I guess I answered my own question.
The article went on more with god this and jesus that. Nothing too interesting.
It's always interesting to see how backwards the thinking can get sometime. The friendships that I've formed in the ACT are worth so much more than what they described in this article since I know none of them are because 'god commanded' or they're 'following jesus' example'. Thank god I have real friends.
