Providing a Cup of Water in Jesus' Name
The Campus Crusade for Christ is "working to expand a unique strategy that provides life-giving water, offered along with the message of the One who quenches spiritual thirst".
What they're doing is raising money to distribute some personal water filtration systems (big straws with filters) in poverty-stricken countries and making sure that all the dying people know that Jesus brought them their straw. As they state "these gifts are offered alongside the Gospel of Jesus Christ".
There's an even larger organization called "Living Water International" that distributes these and works on larger water solutions. Although they seem to be more comprehensive their slogan is "Providing a Cup of Water in Jesus' Name".
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that Mafia-style tactics? Bringing the free water and makin' sure they know who's supplyin' it. Seems kind of un-christian to me.
Here is 'The Approach' of LWI:
Train, Equip, Consult (sounds great, what's next?)
Priorities - Appropriate Technology, Community Involvement, Maintenance and Sustainability (once again, fantastic, and then?)
In Jesus' Name - Christian Witness, Recognizing God at Work (why could they have stopped earlier?)
Part of this includes statements like, "Our Christian identity shapes our view of what community development is", so much for congratulating them on community involvement. And this brilliant nugget "we do our work praying and yearning for people to know Jesus".
It gets better, "It is our role to recognize his (God's) activity and be part of it".
And finally this part:
"As we enter a new community, it is our greatest hope to empower the people of God that are already there. Through the provision of clean water, we enable them to reach out to their neighbors, meeting physical and spiritual needs better than we as outsiders ever could."
They say that they "serve all who are thirsty, regardless of their beliefs" but this makes it sound like they may do some prioritization. Give the christians the water first and when their neighbors notice they'll be easy to convert.
I did a quick search and there are several secular organizations doing the same thing such as 'Global Water' whose slogan is "We're Changing The World - One Village At A Time". They have a nice looking tri-fold brochure in a pdf and there's no mention of god or christ. Imagine - helping people because it's the right thing to do. Huh? I wonder if christians know about this?

Stacy Robinson, a receiver on the Giants’ first two Super Bowl
championship teams, died on Tuesday at the age of 50.
Robinson spent six years with the Giants after they drafted him in the
second-round of the 1985 draft out of North Dakota State. He played in

It’s so refreshing to come across yet another conscientious citizen who has nothing to gain (or no axe to grind) by disparaging other peoples good names.
And being such a “solid citizen” and “crusader for good” for the masses, it’s odd that you would feel the need to post this type of hate mail anonymously. If you are being 100% truthful (and of course how could anyone ever doubt your credibility), then why did you redact your contact number? Why operate under a fictitious name?
It’s odd that you never mentioned actually doing business with masterbusinessplan, yet you claim to have all of this “insider information”. I find it hard to believe that someone who has never had a disappointing experience with a firm would take the time or effort to write such a defaming post. I just wanted to say that you hit it on the head with your description of how masterbusinessplan works. At the end of the day it was my choice and decision to go with them for the creation of a business plan but I really thought I would have received more for my money and much better customer service. I thought the customer is always right? lol That's definitely not a phrase that they take to heart.
First, the "experienced" business plan writer assigned to my plan supposedly had done "many" business plans for the sector that I was entering (social networking). I was happy about that and thought I made the right choice with masterbusinessplan. I spent about 45 minutes on the phone with my rep for the initial call where I explained my business and answered all the questions she had. When I hung up I had a positive feeling that the first draft would be a good one. Unfortunately, the first draft was poorly structured and written. First, the grammar was God-awful. My rep told me that at the end of the revisions that the grammer would be fixed. I found this to be silly, as reading over the draft was so frustrating with all of the grammatical mistakes. At least make an effort with grammar on the first draft!
As I was going over the first draft I really couldn't believe how poorly structured and written it was. It hardly conveyed my ideas at all. Not to mention the market data that my rep. collected on my target demographic wasn't even for my target demographic!!! It was much more generalized statistics and information. I brought this up to her and her answer was: "Don't worry. Investors will understand and get the idea..." Is she kidding me? What investor is going to take a second look at a plan that has market data for a group other than your targeted niche. In addition, while I was on the phone with her I mentioned a recent trend in social networks and advertising and she said: "Wow...I didn't know that". And this is supposed to be a person that has done many social network business plans? I remember getting off the phone and thinking "What did I get myself into".
However, since I had already paid in full, I wanted to try and make the best of it. I ripped the first draft apart for a good two days straight, section by section. I made a ton of comments that I wanted answered when I got the second draft. When the second draft came I was very surprised to see merely a "cut-and-paste" job with all of the edits and new information I gave to her. Not to mentioned that MANY of my questions and comments weren't even answered. I repeatedly asked if they could find more up-to-date statistics and that was never answered. At this point it was becoming almost a joke. The 21-day revision period was almost over. That's where they get you. They do such a poor job on the plans that you're going to have to put in a ton of work yourself to even make an attempt to save your plan. I knew I couldn't get the whole plan done in 21-days. To gain additional revisions I would have had to pay more. When I got the 2nd draft back I decided to take matters into my own hands. I went to two seperate business strategists, one of whom works for an investment capital firm. Both of them said that there was so much wrong with the draft. The financial charts weren't accurate and some of the figures were just plain wrong.
At this point I knew that I had thrown almost $4k down the drain and it was going to be a total loss. What I received from them was in reality a poor template. Even though I pretty much knew that I wouldn't get a dime back from them, I decided to e-mail the CEO, who I initially contacted from the beginning when I showed interest in using masterbusinessplan. I sent him an e-mail explaining my situation. He promptly responded and said that he takes complaints like these very seriously and would look into it. I heard back from him and (surprise, surprise) he said he spoke to my rep and she thought everything was going according to plan. I broke down exactly what I thought the problems were. He answered a few of them but not all of them. I also never got answers from him on the two statements my rep made to me regarding "broad market statistics" being fine for potential investor's and her having no knowledge of advertising trends in social networking. Not to mention no one ever answered me as to why many of the comments and questions I made on the first draft were never answered. Heck...I didn't ask for any money back but they could have had the courtesy to at least answer these questions. I e-mailed the CEO back and told him that I didn't want to deal with masterbusinessplan anymore. Again, I would have thought he would have at least sent me one last e-mail apologizing for my bad experience with his company but I didn't even get that.
Like I said at the beginning, at the end of the day I should have done more research on masterbusinessplan. You live and learn, though. It's a tough and expensive lesson for start-ups and seed companies like myself but I guess it's part of life. I have no one to blame but myself. I'm sure masterbusinessplan has worked well for many people but I can only go by my experience. I have both a bachelor's and master's degree and I find it hard to believe that some of the people who worked on my plan had the same level of education. It is what it is, though. I don't wish ill of them but I cannot with a clear conscious recommend masterbusinessplan. Very unprofessional.

I just wanted to update my situation with masterbusinessplan. After more communication with the company founder, , I don't believe this company is in any way fraudulent or deceptive, but rather my engagement with them was a singular break down in their process and not the norm. In the end, they did right by me and I'm happy.

You got ripped off. and took you for a ride. You paid how much money to have a 24 year old write the business plan for your company? Go visit their office there's no MBAs or Master level anything. Did they give you a full or partial refund?

I requested information on a business plan and was contacted by who talked fast and explained the business plan process. It was like he was rushing through his script to get to the credit card information. Like an idiot I bought into the idea of saving time and the ordeal of doing the plan on my own, and gave up my CC info and in 2 seconds the charge for half the plan was debited. I received an email a short time later from Leah Wing with the agreement. Too bad I signed it. Obviously at this point my mind is more focused on the needs of my business and being able to secure financing with a plan that is much better than I could do. Boy was I wrong. After faxing this information to them, I received an email from Paige Short - Project Lead. When we spoke I provided lots of information about the products, sent my resume, and an idea about what I wanted to do. Then I did not hear back from her for over a week. Finally I get a draft that has financials done by a 5 year old. They do not make sense at all, almost laughable by myself, let alone a lender I'd have to sit in front of and try to explain. I emailed Paige back with some estimations. First just to give you an idea. I really need about $20, 000 in funding. The plan called for $120, 000. The gross margins, revenues, net profit, cash flow, balance sheet, made absolutely no sense for my business at all. You could tell it was cookie cutter, some kind of spreadsheet that just filled in random numbers.Mind you since this was my draft, as soon as it was emailed another $450 came out of my account. And in the email was a statement saying I have 21 days to request revisions. When I emailed Paige back and advised that these were off, she said she would work on it. Then again 5 days go by and finally I get a Word Document and PDF file. The changes were barely made, if none at all. The financial statements were ridiculous and made no sense. There is no way anyone could walk into a bank and think they can get a business loan, line of credit, or request from the SBA...So the rest of the plan anyone can get from the internet basically - and even I gave them the product descriptions, my background. The executive summary is cookie cutter. The demographic research I'm sure they can afford to pay for that additional info, but most of it can be found by googling demographics in my area... as I type this I feel stupider for not even making the attempt to do this myself - lessons learned I guess, but I want anyone who even thinks of using s.com to be aware and STAY AWAY FROM THEM...once they get your money they don't even want to give you time on the phone to go over the plan revisions step by step, they just try to stay away and send emails out every few days. Or if you even mention a revision after you receive your draft, they take 4 or 5 days to make some minor changes that way those 21 days you get, go by fast!!! THE BIGGEST SCAM IS RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF OUR EYES. The reality is is that no one else knows what kind of plan someone else gets so they just think they are the only one, or don't understand how it's like every other plan more than likely. And the financial statements MAKE NO SENSE AT ALL - you are better off going to an SBA or Business Workshop and taking the time to write your own plan at least that way it will be the way YOU NEED IT AND PLAN IT TO BE. I will never again pay someone else to do something like this again.
My experience was just like the above I guess you get what you pay for, the thing that really pisses me off is that I thought that I was getting a deal and in the end I am worse off then when I started!
Sorry you didn't have a good experience.. I used them on one of my busineses and had no issue. I went back to them to get 35k in funding and the bank was impressed at the depth of the plan. I have worked with Paige on two projects and she has always been responsive. Paige took the time and got her financial modeler on the line and he explained it to me so I could fill in any questions the bank had. I not saying you didn't get the service you paid for.. I am just giving you my experience.

The proof is always in the facts. s.com has the worse Better Business Bureau track record in the industry, has multiple complaints with the Oregon Secretary of State, and isn't being accused of just poor work but of scamming, ripping-off clients and breaking the law.
There's literally hundreds of posts from unhappy clients online (ComplaintsBoard & RipOffReport) not just claiming poor service but fraud, class action lawsuits, fake endorsements, s is a scam, fraudulent sales practices, Better Business Bureau complaints and complaints filed with the Oregon Attorney General's office. Most can't be faked but are real, documented actions against the company from ex-clients that PROVE wrong doing and have been brought to the attention of authorities.
And "helifed" you are the ONLY person to have posted anything positive about s online since they began operation 6 years ago. Go figure?

This company tauts themselves as listed in Entreprenuer magazine and doing business with Al Pacino. They are a complete SCAM. I have complained against them to the State Attorney General's office and the Better Business Bureau in their respective state.
They claimed that they would charge me half up front for the business plan writing service and half at the date of delivery. THEY LIED!!! They charged me half up front and the other half three days later prior to delivery of the plan and prior to negotiations for the plan. After about a month and a half of negotiations with the company, disputing the charge with my bank, and final delivery, I had the plan independently reviewed by an impartial business and technology development center in my state who said in writing that the plan was shotty and the number and percentages on the plan did not make sense and were not in line with averages listed on bizminer.com. I have since retured the plan to them because I am unable to present the plan to a bank because the plan's numbers don't match and did not include information that I stated that I wanted in the plan.
Needless to say, I am still in a dispute with my bank and the company regarding the charges to my account.
This company should be prosecuted for misrepresentations and theft!!!
I just wanted to update my situation with s. After more communication with the company founder, Howe, I don't believe this company is in any way fraudulent or deceptive, but rather my engagement with them was a singular break down in their process and not the norm. In the end, they did right by me and I'm happy.

I have nothing personl against the company. They refunded my money in full as well. However, the only reason I am posting this feedback is becasue I want the future customers to know the truth that s plan is not something that can be taken to VCs. I am now working with a CPA, and yes it's costing me significantly more, who is atleast setting my valuation tables, CAP tables correctly.
My CPA looked at my bank accounts, my 3 year Tax Payments, and audited my entire financial plan before even looking at my business plan. Furthermore, he was very clear in that he will have to do extensive research to make sure that the plan is correct.
The only reason I selected s was becasue they told me that they had done 100s of plans like mine. They were familiar with VCs requirements and Level 2 plan would be a perfect plan for me.
Wow, I am amazed I thought we were the only ones that got scammed. We paid $2000 for a 27 page "business plan" full of useless numbers and completely unrealistic goal target, ect. After I tried to work it out with them, they requested a letter from the bank that clearly states loan denied based on business plan. The thing is WE WERENT LOOKING FOR A LOAN. Business plan was intended for sponsorships potentials as we have a TV Show. But even if we needed a loan, banks don't approve/deny based on any business plan, and such letter is impossible to obtain.
I was so frustrated with this company. they claim to be professionals, but based on the "work" they did its just a whole bunch of nonsense hoping that someone real dumb, and has no sense of logic in their own business, will fall for it.

I too came to dislike s.com. After they got the first half of the money, i got the "plan" which made no sense #'s wise and when the corrections were submitted evrything got quiet. No phone calls returned or e-mails answered. Then they took the second half. The first phone call they insisted that i had signed a contract and had no legal standing cause i got my plan as contracted . Which was untrue. There was no record of me approving the draft or a record of the post office or ups, etc delivering it. Once this was pointed out and i explained to them that i was not litigating but that i expected my AG to prosecute this is when i got my money back. It took eight months. I have to agree that this is a company to be avoided.
I like to tank each of you for taking the time to write about this company they have done many calls to try to get me to do business with them but I like to read the blog sections on what is the performance of the company when comes to what they say they do. I my self do marketing and promotions for music artist and believe me when I say this if your company names is dirty no one is going to want do business with you. That is just the nature of the load!
Plans, s, s.com and owner Howe, of , Oregon are under investigation in several states and ripped off clients are filing law suits against them, going to the BBB, attorney general and law enforcement. They're trying to get as much money out of people through high pressure sales tactics before they're shut down. You are very fortunate and smart to have avoided getting scammed. Which scammer kept calling you Howe or Rick Nischelke?
These guys are scammers and play off of hard working business people's emotions. They have a rigid templated process that will never get anyone funded. My Accountant and banker looked at the rough draft and said, you paid how much? And if thinks he's such a tough guy, he'll get what's coming to him, just wait and watch. I don't like bullies. And he's a bully. And now he has met his match. They won't be in business for much longer. You cannot simply run a company of lies and maintain that for very long. BTW, is there any information on how many of the plans they write actually get funded?
I agree with Phil and everyone else about the negative comments made about s.com I always do a search for a company with the word scam and find out whats really going on. I was so caught up with my business startup and the need for funding, I got fooled by their website and advertising and process overall that I bought into it and threw away $900. Now that could have been used for so many other important things I need right now for my business especially with the upcoming holiday season. Now I have a bunch of financials, that even if I wanted to modify myself, I cant because I cant even export them to excel from the word document they gave me. I'd have to do it myself, and after spending $900 for 27 pages of garbage. UNREALISTIC NUMBERS, FINANCIAL STATEMENTS, like everyone else has said. I signed a contract with s and received unrealistic numbers and financial statements. I took the plan to a group that works with individuals to get SBA loans. They told me the numbers were very unrealistic. I complained to the individual writing the plan for me, Paige, and received and answer that completely made no sense as far as the numbers. I never received a revised draft and had to call and complain after waiting for two months!. I finally received a revision which contained the exact same information as the original draft. I spoke with and he said he would get back to me but never did. It was a simple daycare business plan and they couldn't even get it right. I spent $1200 and don't have anything. I would have been much better off purchasing Business Plan Pro or some other software for $99. They are a complete rip off!!!
These people totally copied and pasted everything I submitted them. Their writers are awful; their project managers don't provide adequate customer service; and Howe is probably one of the most pompous business owners Iv'e ever come into contact with.
I've never been so appalled - my loan officer told me the plan I submitted them was unacceptable and s refused to revise my draft to their liking. Scammers, indeed.
I just contacted s.com and I spoke with a nice lady who explain me what they offer, the price $4, 400.00 (50% at front and the other 50% at the end). Always I do researching before giving money out to a company. My present husband was scammed several times and I told him that we have to be careful. The first image of s.com was a professional company. They have so nice designed business plans online. When I started opening the samples they sent by e-mail and research for the websites mentioned in their plans, they didn't exist. I made more investigation regarding .com and scam. For sure I will not move forward with this company. Thanks for all this complaints I am able to open my eyes. I have been doing research for years after I hired a company that scammed me . Hopefully someone can stop this fraudulent companies. They still doing dirty businesses and is sad that they still in the market.
It's a shame one bad apple sheds such a dark shadow over an innovative creative little cottage industry. Not knowing that they are professionals business plan writers on the internet I found some I was interested in and did all my research just like you. I went through the same thing you did basically, passed on s and ended up going with a company i was very happy with and they brought a lot of experience and guidance. You have to take complaints on the internet with a grain of salt but when people talking class action lawsuits, fraud, and scams and over a long period of time it makes you wonder if there's some truth. I give just about everybody a chance until they prove me wrong. I'm that kinda person. What really took the cake, but I had already made my decision to say "NO", was all the employees who shared a lot of facts logically put together.
